A comment on "ethos"
Working for a
"Christian" organisation can be a mixed blessing.
One can feel, on the
one hand, that you are really serving God and that all your 'work'
is for God, with the bonus that you are paid. That is great, but one
also has to remember that if the expectation is that "in all that
you do, do it as for the Lord", there can easily be a drift
toward over work, "going the extra mile" etc. because you
want to please God and give Him your best. That will lead to burn
out and frustration.
The other extreme is
that we sit back and expect God to do everything to make our
lives easy because it is "the Lord's work". As a
Christian it is sometimes possible to treat our faith as a kind of "hobby"
for the weekends and our spare time. If that transfers to the
"workplace", that simply won't get the job done.
So it becomes a matter
of balance.
Working hard, yet "resting"
in God.
Doing our
best, yet relying on God.
Going all out, yet
pacing ourselves.
Doing all we
can, yet praying hard that God will do his part.
Trusting in
His strength, yet using ours.
